As we all know (or should know) on the web "Content is King!", and you are the best person to talk about your business, products and services.

Write me a webpage, Elsie!Writing content that works well for the web isn't easy, not only do you have to come up with something to say, you also have to structure it correctly, make sure you're using keywords and phrases and write it in a way that relates to and is easy to understand for your audience. Sounds like hard work right? That's because it is, well at least to start with, but the benefits you will see are very much worth putting the effort in for.

So when you're ready to write content for your website, or give your existing content a refresh, where do you start? Well if you're one of our clients we can certainly give you some pointers, but if you'd prefer to have a well written, professional and easy to follow guide at hand, I recommend you give Rachel McAlpine's book, 'Write me a webpage, Elsie!' a try.

Rachel McAlpine is a New Zealand writer and web content strategist and in this book she focuses on how to write fresh, functional, findable content for intranets and websites. Her strategies and techniques can be applied not just to your website but to all of your written communications.

This book covers everything from how people read your content to the 'feng shui' of it, which sounds odd but makes sense. I found this book really easy to follow, as you would expect, and great to have nearby for reference when writing content as it's easy to find and jump to any section you need. There are some sections of the book that may not be entirely relevant to you, like the detailed information on intranet and E-government writing, these are again easy to skip over or scan quickly for anything that may be useful.

If you're considering taking a look at this book make sure you get the 2011 edition as this is the latest and if you want to try it before you buy you should be able to find it at your local library.

If you do read it let us know the tip you found most useful / eye opening.
